Gisely Ferraz

Gisely Ferraz, known as Gi or @brazilianclimbergirl, is a professional climber born in Brazil and naturalized in the USA. She is a mom, lives the van life, and is the founder of Beyond Jamming Clinics. She works as a guide in Utah, holding certifications from AMGA, WFR, and Irata for rope access. Gi is an athlete for the La Sportiva Passion Team, Julbo, Mountain House, Paka, and Grivel. She also co-instructed the "The Art of Offwidth Clinics" with Pamela “Shanti” Pack, where they have established First Ascents (FAs) in the infamous Utah desert. Additionally, Gi promotes climbing experiences for beginner and intermediate climbers in Patagonia, Argentina.

Gi has been climbing for 25 years. In her younger years, she competed in the Brazilian Climbing Nationals for five years and was the third Brazilian female to break through the 5.13 sport climbing grade in 2000. After her first experience on El Capitan, her passion and focus shifted to crack climbing and adventure lines. She has climbed El Cap twice (Freerider and Salathe) and has been working on freeing the Freerider as her long-term project.

Gi also has a deep love for alpine climbing, and one of her notable achievements includes climbing El Mostro La Presença de Mi Padre in Chilean Patagonia’s Cochamó Valley. This was a 1,000-meter granite route (25 pitches, 5.10d) completed in 17 hours with her partner, Ken Anderson. In 2022, Gi summited her dream mountain, Fitz Roy, in Patagonia.

A significant part of Gi’s journey has been shaped by her community involvement and support after losing her partner, best friend, and climbing companion, Ken Anderson, in a tragic climbing accident in Squamish, Canada, in 2019. After more than a year of working through her trauma and receiving support from the climbing community and friends, Gi found joy and resilience again through climbing. Supporting and giving back to the climbing community remains one of her primary goals.
